Good, but Humphries is on it's last legs. The company is on it's last piece of property. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] I'd bet 5 years would be a long life (had a b-i-l that worked 20 years for them, so I kinda know what they owned and have leased). That would still leave the City with a great deal of money to do other things, if they didn't have to keep up the high school, wouldn't it? By the way here is a little about the state funding I mentioned.

GATE CITY "? Scott County teachers will be receiving paychecks before the holidays after a request by the county school board for a line of credit was approved by the Scott County Board of Supervisors at its December meeting Wednesday night.

The board unanimously passed a resolution giving County Treasurer Kevin Helms the authority to seek a $3 million line of credit to help the school system deal with delays in preapproved funding from the state.

The line of credit is the first sought for the school board since the current Board of Supervisors took office.

"We're anticipating that revenue, so the county itself is lucky enough to be in good enough financial condition to where we can manage ours,"? Board of Supervisors Chairman David Redwine said. "The school system has a much larger payroll, and they don't have as much of a cushion, so they had to come up with some sort of method to bridge them until that money comes down from Richmond."?

The line of credit would be used by the Scott County school system to meet monthly obligations "? including salaries and fringe benefits "? until February or March, when Superintendent Jim Scott expects the system will begin receiving the delayed revenue from the state.

So far this year, the system has only received $8 million of $29 million that it was promised by the state.

The delay would cause the schools to come up almost $200,000 short on salary and benefit payments for December and January, said Scott.

Redwine said the bidding process for the line of credit would begin as soon as possible so school faculty and staff could be paid before Christmas.

Wipe your neck...the paper was talking to the folks on the Norton board. I don't care what they do. But if they weren't interested, they wouldn't ask. If mining slumps, Norton is as broke as the rest of us. If they split the bill with the county ,it is easier for them. Watch and see. Maybe China can come back quick and keep the mines running. But the cutbacks have already started.

Well I do know that a Wise Co school boad member or two has already mentioned to one of the Administrators in Norton that they need to decide soon, because if they wait to long into the process the Co won't have a need for the cities teachers and administrator's.

Then why was the city so addimant about not letting them go when they were making the move and did everything they could to make sure they kept them within the city limits to keep that money coming in by saying "they couldn't make it without them".

im almost sure that the only thing that got private donations was the locker room the stadium remodel was paid for by the city or the state not sure which but by no means was it paid for by private donations!

Yeah, the stadium was paid for by the city, 99% sure. This is why it took so long. they studied and got estimates and by the time they wanted to go ahead the price had gone up again. the city wrestled with which "fix it" plan to go with because of money concerns

I'm pretty sure that most of this statement was in the paper back in summer too.

I'd bet the County has a senority system for the teachers and they won't need any of JIB's teachers, anyway. This might be great for the county, but not so sweet for the teachers at JIB.

I would lean more toward the buyout/forced retirement side and keep the lower paid newer ones. They won't be getting rid of as many teachers as one would think since they will need to keep a certain student/teacher ratio.

Thanks for the clrification on the stadium upgrades. That is why asked if it was donations and didn't just say it was donations. Either way the stadium upgrades needed to be done in a bad way and they couldn't take the chance on waiting to see what the county was doing and then still be 10 years away from a new school then.
